Day 1: My Build In Public Plan
How I'll build my next course over 30 days
Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback over the last couple of days about where to post the daily reports on building my next course.
I’ve decided to post my daily reports here in Course Builders Corner since the overwhelming majority - 80% of people - wanted that. But to help out those who don't want all those posts, I'm going to preface each one with "Day 1" "Day 2" etc. so you'll know you can ignore the post if you want.
With that out of the way, here's the plan moving forward.
Each day, I will take some action to create my next course.
I will report on that action here.
I'll be following my Atomic Course Blueprint as I do so.
So here's the next decision: What course do I build?
Should I build my Atomic Course Blueprint in front of all of you or create a course about something else?
I've decided to build another course in public instead as I feel it is confusing to watch me apply my blueprint to build the course teaching the blueprint. (I was getting confused just thinking of how to make that work too).
What will the course be about then?
It will be the course that teaches how I, a not-organized person, keeps all my projects organized so I can get them done. Each year, I have over two dozen projects for work that need to get done.
Earlier in my career, I would not be able to keep so many details straight.
In fact, I used to tell my boss, I can only handle one project at a time. A few years after he died, I was running five cohort-based courses a year, training instructors, doing simple financial projections, planning the year's calendar of events, and marketing for new projects and services. The list goes on.
I handle all of it with a four-part system I learned from a master of digital organization, Tiago Forte.
In the next 30 days, I will put together a small course teaching one element of Tiago's system that will allow you to relax in the face of dozens of projects.
You'll have a place for everything, and have everything in it's place.
That way when you need something, you can always find it. You'll have your information in a system you can trust.
Over the next 30 days, I'll report on everything I do to build this Atomic Course.
What do you think of this plan?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
