I hadn't heard of Substack's "email-only" feature. Maybe it's new?
As far as I know, such a thing doesn't exist! You can choose to post something on your Substack page, without sending the emails to your readers, or you can do both. But, I've not heard of an email-only choice.
And yes, the email-only feature does exist but it's a bit hidden. You have to go to your subscribers list and then click the checkbox next to a few names. Then the option to email them shows up. This allows you to send an email and not make a Substack post.
