What are three often-overlooked elements that are essential to have in an effective course?
1) Examples
2) Mistakes
3) Action-steps
1) Examples
Whenever my trainees don't understand something, they instinctively ask for an example. Examples clarify. Examples give confidence. Provide at least 1 or 2.
2) Mistakes
Customers will step in pot-holes if they can't see them. By naming errors, you shine a light that keeps them from falling into avoidable traps.
3) Action-steps
Tell them what to do next. Make it super clear. Provide a checklist if needed. Don't make them figure it out. They might click away, intending to work out the details later, but never return.
In the course I'm building, I added three questions to each part of my outline to help me find examples, mistakes and action-steps.
For Part 1 on Top Level Outlines I added:
What are one or two examples of top-level outlines?
What are some common mistakes in creating a top-level outline? How can these mistakes be avoided?
What are the action steps?
Here’s a screenshot of the entire evolving outline:
On Monday, I'll show you the first step to turning this outline into a speed-writing process that helps you get your course created quickly.
